Group Running Lessons in Nashville???

I am in the beginning stages of triathlon training. Recently, I found this link which is a 20 minute segment of a Coach Al Lyman seminar where he discusses the importance of utilizing the energy stored within the elasticity of the hips and ligaments, as well as the importance of Yoga to prevent injury.

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=1801

I'm on week 2 of P90X which is pretty taxing, but am still trying to work my heart rate by running for an hour in my upper heart rate zone on non cardio days of P90X.

I am looking for some lessons from someone with the similar running philosophy as Coach Al, because that make sense to me. I definitely noticed a great difference today when I simply started twisting my hips more. Any suggestions?

Forum: Running Partners

This course is fairly hilly and there is a turn around (not always well marked) midway. It is a beautiful park this time of year and the temp should be in the upper 60's tomorrow. I am going down from Dickson on Highway 7 through Columbia.

I will have the blue bins at the race on Saturday. If any runners would like to help me with some items that would be great. I am completely out of XL and 2XL t-shirts. I also have a group that is in need of any kind of clothing for Toddlers. It would be great if you can help.
Dumb iPod question

Lots of runners use iPods. I don't like to disassociate when I run, so I don't wear them. However, when I have tried it, the earplugs came out. I mean, they fall out even when I am just walking around. I've tried maybe a half dozen different shapes of ear buds, but they all fall out. The only way I can keep them on is to wear a headband, but they still come loose under the headband so the sound quality is very poor.

The normal shaped ear buds fall out immediately. The ones that look like a plug might stay in for a couple of minutes. The ones that fit over the ear interfere with my glasses and develop a sore spot after a few minutes... and the pull loose so the ear bud is just sort of floating near my ear, so the sound quality is awful.

And yes.... I have tried duct tape. I have to put a cotton ball over the ear plug and then duct tape the whole thing in place. It's pretty painful to remove it from the ear and it's uncomfortably hot.

I have tried headphones, but I sweat so much that the speakers short out after an hour. After that, they have to be thrown away.

Any ideas?

Forum: General Forum

Does anyone know if there is a decent track at East Lit. On Google Maps it looks like one was being constructed. Is it finished and/or available to the public. I need to get a track workout in this afternoon, but also plan to go for a pint in East Nashville. Hence my inquiry.

Thanks for any info.

Forum: General Forum

What do I do between two marathons/1 month?

I am running Chickamauga in a couple of weeks. Hope to finish around 3:50, give or take a couple of minutes. One month later, in December 13, I am running a marathon with my brother- his first. His goal is 5 hours. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up walking a little bit and coming in a little slower than that.

Anyway, what do I do in between the two? Do I need another long run? I was kind of assuming I could just putz around for a month (say 30 mpw easy pace)and then jog the marathon with him. Would that be okay?

Forum: General Forum

too late for long run?

I just found out that I got in a 50k race on November 21 (Dizzy Fifties--I was on the waiting list). It will be my first 50k, and I'm not looking to do anything special beyond living afterwards. However, I was originally planning to run a 25 miler on the trail as part of my preparation, but once I didn't get registered on time, and registered for another race in December, I put off that long run. Is it too late to do it this week? Will it be counterproductive at this point?

I ran a 19-miler on the road last week and ran the Big South Fork 17.5 miler about six weeks ago, but I've never run longer than 2.5 hours. My desire to do the 25 miler now is to get mentally prepared for being out there so long, and to practice actually eating some real food and doing more walking than I might be used to doing. I'm hoping that I'll finish the race in five to five and a half hours.

Any thoughts?

Forum: General Forum
