Pancake flat course in Shelby park, with a 7:00am start time. There should be some fast times- and awards for overall, masters, grandmasters and age group.
I'm obviously a big fan of IRFTP, this is a great chance to give them a shot! I think they have probably got just as many first time racers/runners off the couch as the Mayor's 5k program. From my 270+ races in the last eight years I know a LOT of faces that show up at the local striders races and other races. IRFTP has brought a whole new crowd out by promoting running and having fun at the same time- come meet some new people.
Don't buy into the stereotype that these are crazy "beer runs". I don't like beer myself, and have yet to see anyone under the influence. This race will NOT have beer, there will be Purity CHOCOLATE MILK instead!

I agree that this is a fast course. Hopefully, it will not be as crowded as Tom King.
Can't wait for that chocolate milk.

Is there another flat course besides Shelby Park? For some reason, I was the only person who got Poison Ivy during my 1/2 Marathon in 2010.

Did you stay on road the whole time?
There aren't many 10ks in Nashville, none that I know of that are flatter than this one. http://running.net/tennessee-running-calendar

I stayed on the path the whole time. It used to be where I grew up with poison ivy, and never got affected, until Shelby parks 1/2 marathon in 2010.

I'm thinking Purity is about as flat as it gets.

What kind of party has chocolate milk? Sounds like any other race. Where is the party?

Is this part of the Shelby Bottom Boogie 15k? I ran a very fast time there. However, I was chasing a blonde . Haven't done that pace since.

Yes, we were both there IRFTP has attracted over 15,000. The Mayor's program, IRFTP, and the Striders all have their niche. The more people getting out there the better.
Here is a copy/paste from a previous post so I don't have to go over it again. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151887018595594.875282.502835593&type=3&l=6b6f565af1
There are some pics of the July 4th race on my FB page. Not your typical race where you run, eat a apple, get a medal and leave.
You can still be a serious runner (or not) and have fun!! (while helping out a worthy cause!) In addition to the free beer that Tdp mentioned-, He didn't mention the costume contest at all races, sometimes live music, a fireworks show was at the halloween 5k, there was a dunking booth anyone could do at the july 4th race and inflatable bouncy house for kids, I've seen a photo booth, comedian, etc- always something new. Always more fun.

Jacobs, I really like your thoughts on the Mayor's program. IRFTP and the Striders having their niche. It gets them out. Good thoughts.
