Hey, thought I'd introduce myself.  I am a new runner, running since spring.  I have always been a lousy runner, dispite playing a variety of sports through highschool, then intermurals in college.  Running a solid mile was even a struggle.  Back in the spring I began running to try to do something about my beer gut. It started out as a mile a couple of times a week maybe, usually I did more biking.  Then I started doing a 45 minute run/walk.  Now I have run two 5Ks, the first was at Westhaven in franklin (25:14) and this past weekend the Susan G. Komen.  I learned a valuable lesson after posting a time of 28:45.  That lesson, if you arrive to a run two hours before it starts, and you drink a lot of water, you will absolutely MURDER your time having to stop at one of the lovely portajohns.  After that I ran too hard to make up for the lost time, cramped up.  Otherwise it was a great time.  Anyone know an official attendance count on that?  At any rate, I never thought I'd say this, but it's amazing how addictive running is.  I hope to compete in the 1/2 marathon in the spring, hopefully I can get thru the Thanksgiving-New Year stretch without gaining too much weight.  Cheers!

Nice job on the 5K's, Wooly. Keep at it during the holidays and begin "marathon training" near New Year's.

I too am a new runner. The training part really helped me to stick to a schedule and keep on track

Good luck, and don't be a stranger on the main boards.
