For those of you unfamiliar with the event, here's the skinny:
The Music City Distance Carnival is Tennessee’s premiere track meet. In its short history, it has yielded more Tennessee all-comers records, State high school records, National Championships qualifying performances, and sub-4 minute miles than any other track meet in the state.
In the classic 1 mile distance, the meet can boast the fastest mile ever recorded in Tennessee, has seen eleven sub-4:00 miles, and gave Nashville its first ever, courtesy of 2-time Olympian, Anthony Famiglietti.
What makes this event special?
The Music City Distance Carnival is unique in several ways: First of all, it is a track meet solely devoted to distance running, which is by far the fastest growing and popular sector of the sport of track & field.
Second, it is the only meet in the nation offering open races for all ages and abilities in the same meet where national caliber high school, post-collegiate, and masters runners are competing. Third, the meet takes place late at night making the weather more conducive to fast running and adding to the electric atmosphere.
As well as attracting the best distance runners in Tennessee and surrounding states, the Distance Carnival regularly draws U.S Olympians and has had 15 other nations represented among its participants - Barbados, Burundi, Canada, Congo, Finland, Great Britain, Grenada, Guyana, Kenya, Ireland, Kuwait, Japan, Jamaica, Panama, and Trinidad & Tobago.
Outside of the Country Music Marathon, the Distance Carnival ranks second to none when it comes to bringing elite runners and fans of the sport to middle Tennessee.

Intimidated? Don't be
The early part of the meet is essentially an all-comers meet just like the ones the Nashville Striders host in the summer. So don't feel intimidated. Come on down and see if you can better your 800m, 1 mile, or 5K PR, and then kick back and watch the really fast folks go at it!
