Online registration for the Music City Distance Carnival is now open:

For those of you unfamiliar with the event, here's the skinny:

The Music City Distance Carnival is Tennessee’s premiere track meet. In its short history, it has yielded more Tennessee all-comers records, State high school records, National Championships qualifying performances, and sub-4 minute miles than any other track meet in the state.

In the classic 1 mile distance, the meet can boast the fastest mile ever recorded in Tennessee, has seen eleven sub-4:00 miles, and gave Nashville its first ever, courtesy of 2-time Olympian, Anthony Famiglietti.

What makes this event special?

The Music City Distance Carnival is unique in several ways: First of all, it is a track meet solely devoted to distance running, which is by far the fastest growing and popular sector of the sport of track & field.

Second, it is the only meet in the nation offering open races for all ages and abilities in the same meet where national caliber high school, post-collegiate, and masters runners are competing. Third, the meet takes place late at night making the weather more conducive to fast running and adding to the electric atmosphere.

As well as attracting the best distance runners in Tennessee and surrounding states, the Distance Carnival regularly draws U.S Olympians and has had 15 other nations represented among its participants - Barbados, Burundi, Canada, Congo, Finland, Great Britain, Grenada, Guyana, Kenya, Ireland, Kuwait, Japan, Jamaica, Panama, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Outside of the Country Music Marathon, the Distance Carnival ranks second to none when it comes to bringing elite runners and fans of the sport to middle Tennessee.

Here's a video of the men's Mile from 2010 to give you an idea of what the meet is like

Intimidated? Don't be

The early part of the meet is essentially an all-comers meet just like the ones the Nashville Striders host in the summer. So don't feel intimidated. Come on down and see if you can better your 800m, 1 mile, or 5K PR, and then kick back and watch the really fast folks go at it!

OPEN RACES:

5:30pm Under-11 Girls' 800m all girls under age 11
5:35pm Under-11 Boys' 800m all boys under age 11
5:45pm Women's 800m all comers
5:50pm Men's 800m all comers
6:00pm Women's 5000m 25:00
6:30pm Men's 5000m 20:00
7:15pm Women's 1 mile all comers
7:30pm Men's 1 mile all comers

The 2011 Music City Distance Carnival will take place on Saturday, June 4th at Vanderbilt University in Nashville,TN

Or feel free to ask questions on this forum and I'll try to answer them promptly

Update:

New for 2011.

The men's and women's 5000m races will have Tennessee-only prize money for the top three men and women. Exact prize money TBD, but probably $250-$150-100 or thereabouts. I will confirm in the next few weeks.

Don't be scared of The Truth!  The track is "The Truth", no excuses...no place hide!  Wait...that does sound a little scary.  Seriously though...this is AWESOME, and I thank DM for putting it on for everyone in the community.  I ran the 5,000 here last year and had an absolute blast!  I ran my fastest 5k time ever...and just wish I had more opportunities to do races like this.  So get out, have fun....run FAST!  Then kick back in awe of the Pro's that we look up to and admire.  What a great event for Nashville.

We get four pages of posts about some jerk running Tom King with a camera, and one post about a world class track meet held in Nashville. Pathetic. Hundreds of people will show up for a little fun run, but not half a dozen Nashville men and women signed up for a 5,000 on the track last year. I can't believe it. Sign up. Attend. I promise you won't regret it.

So you'll be signing up for the 5,000 in an attempt to redeem yourself after your loss to Trent yesterday?  Trent Vs. Sparky on the track!  I'd pay to see that!

The only reason Sparky lost to Trent on his own turf is because Sparky ran a marathon six days before the showdown.  Oh wait...

The reason Sparky lost to Trent is because Sparky is on a comeback he has not raced in years. Trent races or does a marathon at least once a month,I guess i will race my self back in shape.. Put all your bets up. I may be slow now but by fall i will be beating Trent and You to Eric L. Andrew,Tent, now Eric all you bring it on.. Just like Aronald said "I'll be back.."

If I'm not back in shape to race I'll be there to support all you going for the PR. It looks like a fun event.
